What to Expect Onboard Virgin Voyages Cruise Ships
Tell us about your cruise. Where did you go and why did you decide to take a Virgin Voyages Cruise?
We did 5 days on the Scarlet Lady, visiting Punta Cana and Bimini in the Bahamas. This was my first time sailing with Virgin Voyage Cruises and I decided to take the trip to better understand the experience. As a travel agent, I think it’s incredibly important to know what I’m selling, and you can’t truly know the ins and outs of an experience without experiencing it firsthand.
How would you compare the experience of Virgin Voyages to other cruises you’ve been on as a seasoned traveler?
It’s definitely a different experience than any I've had before on other cruises. As an adults-only cruise, it can be easy to garner a certain reputation, so I was nervous at first and unsure of what to expect. But when we first arrived, I immediately noticed how clean and well maintained it was. It didn’t look or feel like an older ship, so that was a great first impression.
One thing that stuck out to me was the fact that it quite literally looked like an adult playground! There were see-saws and swings around the deck. Boybands playing and dance lessons taking place! It felt like you could revert to your childhood self in the best way!

But out of all the unique aspects of the cruise, the thing that sticks out in my brain to this day is the wide demographic of people onboard. Different ages, ethnicities, disabilities, gender identities, you name it.
Every type of style, personality, and pretty much every type of different person you could think of was under one roof. The best part of it was that everyone was having fun and feeling accepted exactly as they were. This included the staff. There were people working on the ship from all over the world and you could feel that they were truly happy to be there.
As someone who works with all sorts of people when booking travel, this is incredible to see. Sometimes we’re planning trips for someone who is shy or nervous to travel, and it’s great to know that Virgin offers a happy, safe space for everyone to be who they are.
What was one of your favorite activities to do while on board?
Like I said, I really loved how you could let out your inner child with all of the lighthearted activities that made you feel like a teen again – the music, dancing, playing. On the other end of the spectrum, there were certain activities that were definitely catered to an adults-only audience. One that was particularly fun was the Red Party on the first night of the cruise! Dress how you want and be who you are.

What's the overall feeling that you noticed while on board?
While some cruises feel overly buttoned up and sophisticated, the vibe onboard Virgin was joyful and playful in the best way possible!
Something fun that I remember was how you could order champagne with the app by simply shaking your phone. No matter where you are on the ship, just shake the app and it will be delivered to you! It was a neat experience.
What to Do on Virgin Voyages Embarkation Day
On embarkation day for a Virgin Voyages cruise, the excitement is truly palpable as you prepare to set sail. Be sure to arrive early to maximize your time onboard and check in smoothly. We’ve all seen those videos of people getting left behind on the docks, so give yourself plenty of time!
Once on the ship, get settled into your cabin, then take advantage of the onboard activities; whether it's a guided tour of the ship, a relaxation session at the well-being center, or a dive into the various entertainment options. Be sure to attend the sail-away party to celebrate the start of your voyage with fellow passengers. This will be one of the memorable moments from your cruise, guaranteed!
